As part of my planning, I needed to understand what my type of audience would want in a magazine and website.
My target audience is 16-25 year olds of Class AB demographic.
I gathered a focus group of 20 people to inquire about what they would look for in a magazine - I had 10 females and 10 males to ensure I was asking both genders as my magazine is aimed at both. I also used different social groups to ensure this met the brief too.
I communicated with the group via Facebook - Some questions and responses included:
What type of magazine do you feel is missing in the market at the moment?
- 'A high-end one - with prom-style dresses.'
- 'One aimed at young people with posh clothing at affordable prices.'
What types of clothing would draw you into reading a magazine?
- 'Prom and party dresses.'
- 'Nicer outfits for boys - suits but also smart-casual outfits.'
Apart from clothing, what other things would you expect to be on a fashion magazine and in the contents pages?
- 'Shoes and accessories - for both genders. So jewellery but also ties and cuff-links'.
Would you be attracted to following the magazine on social media if you enjoyed the content?
- 'Yes definitely, particularly on Instagram if they were intending to regularly upload outfits and accessories and where to get them for the most reasonable price for young people.'
What types of articles would you want to see on the website?
- 'Interviews with the models and also fashion designers. But also articles including outfits from high-street normal shops and the prices to make it reasonable for young people like students'.
From my responses overall, I found that a 'classy' themed magazine was missing from the market at this current moment, and they feel that more 'posh' outfits such as suits and dresses weren't advertised all year round.
